HOW TO GET TO THE FESTIVAL IN SAHARA DESERT?

We have our checkpoint in Merzouga. From there the shuttle services take you offroad to the location. You have several possibilities to come to the checkpoint location which is in Kasbah La Palmeraie. Anyone who has booked a ticket will receive the GPS coordinates and directions to the secret festival location.

Arrival to the festival area by car or motocycle

Morocco has a modern and well-developed road network. However the last part of the way to the festival location leads through the Sahara Desert (mainly stone desert and dunes). We will make sure that the road is prepared but your vehicle should be suitable for all terrain. Four wheel drive is recommended. Experienced motorcyclists who are used to the desert should have no problem reaching the location. Please drive slowly, carefully and stay on the roads. There are many deep sandy spots where you can get stuck. Towing is expensive and a good source of income for the locals ;). Please don't underestimate the desert. We want you to arrive safely.

Arrival by plane and bus

MOST COMFORTABLE If you want to arrive as comfortable as possible and save maximum of time we recommend a flight to Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN) or alternatively Fez Sais (FEZ) with a domestic connecting flight to Errachidia (ERH). From there you take a taxi or the public bus to Merzouga. The journey takes about 2 hours (140 km). At the meeting point we pick you up and take you to the secret festival location in the desert. For more information about the meeting point and the driving schedule of the public buses see below.

CHEAPEST FLIGHTS The cheapest international flights that we recommend are to the airports Fez Sais (FEZ) and Marrakech Menara (RAK). From there you take easiest and cheapest the optional bookable festival-shuttle-bus to Merzouga. From Fez about 8 hours and from Marrakech about 11 hours driving time. When you arrive at the meeting point we pick you up and take you to the secret festival location in the desert.

ARRIVAL WITH PUBLIC BUS We don’t recommend booking tickets online for public transport in Morocco. The ordering process is complicated, frustrating and usually only in French or Arabic. It is easier to buy tickets on the spot. For you it would be easy to take the bus from marrakech or fes to Merzouga, but be carefull some of them are only going to Rissani (one hour far from merzouga)

Price with taxi from marrakech to merzouga oneway is about 200€ so if you are 4 persons you can get there one way with 50€ each 15€ for a taxi max 6 people from rissani to merzouga

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONS ABOUT MOROCCO

LOCAL CURRENCY - NO MONEY NO HONEY

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (abbr. MAD) We recommend to withdraw cash from ATMs directly at the airport. ATMs in rural places are more likely to reject foreign cards or not working at all. VISA and Mastercard are widely accepted.

currency conversion (19/06/2019): 1 € = 10,8 MAD 1 USD = 9.6 MAD 1 CHF = 9.6 MAD 1 GBP = 12.1 MAD

HEALTH & SECURITY IN MOROCCO

We have traveled tens of thousands of kilometres in Morocco so we can confirm from our own experience that Morocco is a very safe country, which is at least in line with the European security average. Be friendly, relaxed and respect the local culture and you will not have any problems. For the entry to Morocco no vaccination is necessary. When eating on the street you should be careful especially with raw salads, tap water and fresh juice. This may cause diarrhea or stomach upset in sensitive people. Well cooked food is safe. The food offered at the festival is hygienically prepared especially for foreigners. At the festival there will be an ambulance tent for medical emergencies.

Internet WI/FI

In Morocco there is a very good mobile internet connection. Mainly 4G LTE with 69% coverage (Germany has 65% in comparison). Of course in the high mountains and in the deep desert there are some places with bad connection. For your visit in the desert and merzouga we strongly recommend you maroc telecom. This is the only provider with a good mobile internet connection in the secluded festival area. The price for 1 GB data volume is about 10 MAD (~1€). You can buy a top-up (recharge) code for your mobile at almost any kiosk. For top-up maroc telekom wifi connection call or send message to 555CODENUMBER*3
